Drowning prevention week (14 to 21 June 2025)

Last updated by ruth.salter@essex.gov.uk on Wednesday, June 4, 2025

Drowning Prevention Week is coming up soon. It is deliberately timed ahead of the school summer holidays when children spend more time outdoors and vital water safety skills can help keep them safe. No child should drown, and with the right water safety education accidental drownings are preventable.

Children are naturally curious and often drawn to water, whether it’s a pool, beach, or even a garden pond. It is vital for parents and carers to understanding water safety and teaching it to children can make all the difference. There are resources and videos of the Royal Lifesaving Society (RLSS) website.
