Last updated by Stephanie Rosser on Thursday, June 19, 2025

To mark the ESCB Child Exploitation Awareness Week next week, Essex County Council's Risk in the Community Team have recorded some bitesize learning sessions, covering the following topics:

• Safeguarding in the leisure and hospitality industry (Operation Makesafe)
• Safeguarding in Sport
• Safeguarding young people using public transport (Operation Henderson)
• Information for parents and carers
• Information for education providers

These can be accessed along with other campaign resources including podcasts, posters and leaflets on the campaign webpages.

There are lots of events and community engagement sessions taking place throughout the week including:

Operation Makesafe - Monday 23 June
Community outreach teams will be visiting leisure and hospitality venues to increase safeguarding awareness among staff and help those working in the hospitality sector to identify potential victims of child exploitation and understand how to appropriately report concerns to the police.

Safeguarding in sport - networking event Tuesday 24 June
To support sport providers with safeguarding, Active Essex Foundation, alongside partners, are holding a networking event on Tuesday 24 June 2025. There will be information around spotting the signs of exploitation and how to report concerns - guest speakers include NWG and Essex Police.

Operation Henderson - Wednesday 25 June
Community policing teams and other partners will be travelling on key public transport routes to raise awareness of how to report safeguarding concerns. Everyone can help to safeguard vulnerable young people - ticket collectors, engineers, coffee shop workers and cleaners all play an important role.

Online safety session for parents - Thursday 26 June at 8pm
Join The 2 Johns for a free parents and carers online safety session looking at how to understand and have conversations with their children about online activity. Zoom joining link.
