Young Carers Action Day – 11 March 2026

Last updated by ruth.salter@essex.gov.uk on Wednesday, March 11, 2026

This year's theme is: Fair Futures for Young Carers

Today we’re celebrating and supporting the amazing young carers who make a huge difference in their families’ lives every single day.

A young carer is anyone under 18 who looks after someone with an illness, disability, mental health needs or substance misuse issues. This may mean helping with personal care, cooking, organising medication, looking after brothers or sisters, or helping with communication and day to day tasks. Many young carers don’t realise they’re carers or that help is available.

ESCB understand that young carers may feel isolated or miss out on social activities because of the responsibilities they take on. But support is available through the Essex Youth Service, including:

  • one to one key worker support
  • advice and guidance
  • fun activities and opportunities to meet other young carers
  • help to build confidence
  • support as they transition to adulthood
