Current awareness for policy, practice and research (CASPAR) briefing
The Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) has published a report exploring what it is like for young people growing up in England today and what key challenges they face. Analysing official data and findings from workshops featuring over 150 young people aged 11-24, the report highlights how young people feel disconnected from themselves, each other and wider society. Findings reveal: young people in England are becoming more isolated from one another, with 1 in 20 now reporting that they have no close friends at all, up from 1 in 100 in 2014; and the proportion of 16–21-year-olds with at least three close friends has also fallen substantially, as has the quality of friendships.
