National Non-Verbal/ Non-Speaking Awareness Day
National Non-Verbal/Non-Speaking Awareness Day, observed on 30 September 2026, highlights the importance of recognising and supporting different communication needs. The day encourages us to challenge assumptions, increase awareness of alternative communication methods and promote inclusion across our workplaces, services and communities. By fostering understanding and accessibility, we can help ensure that non-verbal and non-speaking people are able to express themselves, have their views heard and participate fully in everyday life.
Many non-speaking individuals use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), including communication devices, symbols, sign language and gestures, to express themselves and connect with others. By increasing awareness and understanding, we can help create more inclusive communities where everyone is heard, valued and respected.
