The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) has published a news story on rising reports of deep-faked online sexual abuse imagery of children in the UK.
New data from the Report Remove helpline, run by the IWF and Childline, shows: in the first six months of 2026 it received 420 reports from children about suspected faked imagery, an increase from 397 reports during the whole of 2025; and by the end of June 2026, 268 actioned reports of confirmed child sexual abuse material involved suspected faked imagery.
The IWF is calling on tech companies to evaluate and safeguard AI models before releasing them to prevent criminals from creating child sexual abuse imagery.
