Consultation - New school food standards

Last updated by jodie.attreed@essex.gov.uk on Monday, April 27, 2026

A consultation has launched for the proposed new School Food Standards that will remain open until 12th June.

With schools playing a pivotal role in shaping children's future health and wellbeing, this is a really key area for both our healthy weight and education agendas. There is an element of crossover between healthy weight and safeguarding concerns which is why Essex Public Health are pleased to see this extended focus on providing children with access to good food and nutrition.

To support and enable Essex schools to be in the best position to contribute to this once in a generation conversation, Essex Public Health are hosting some webinars across April, May and June to provide more information on these proposals and offering an opportunity to answer any questions. Essex Public Health will be holding these in partnership with the Healthy Schools team from HCRG, School Meals Advisory Service and have also commissioned public health nutritionist Zoe Griffiths to attend as well. Zoe has over 30 years working in public health and is a recognised expert in school food.
