The death of a child is a tragedy; as parents we don’t usually expect a child to die before us. The Essex Safeguarding Children Board have a responsibility to review the death of every child under the age of 18.
A leaflet is available for parents, families and carers to help explain why the death of every child under the age of 18 needs to be reviewed by professionals from a number of different organisations:
By reviewing all child deaths we can seek to understand the reasons for the death and to learn as much as possible to prevent future childhood deaths and to support families.
