Online radicalisation training

Last updated by Stephanie.Rosser@essex.gov.uk on Wednesday, September 25, 2024

Southend and Essex Community Safety are working together to provide free online radicalisation training open to all professionals in Essex including Thurrock and Southend.

A good understanding of Prevent, and the ideologies present within the UK is required before taking this training, as this will not be covered in the session. Attendees should as a minimum have taken the Home Office E-Learning, and preferably have attended the training offered by your organisation that provides a more in depth understanding of ideologies and the rhetoric, signs and symbols used by extremist groups.

The session will cover:

  • Background – How the online world interplays with radicalisation, key definitions and processes.
  • Platforms Used – The social media and gaming adjacent platforms commonly used by radicalisers to share extremist content and recruit people, including the dark web.
  • Ideology specific methods – How different extremist groups manipulate the internet to spread propaganda and recruit people.
  • Online Communities – An overview of specific online communities, including Incels and the ‘com network’ and how they cross over with other extreme groups and notions.

Please note that this session will include reference to content of an extremist nature, including visuals.

There are sessions available on:

  • Thursday 24 October 2024, 10:00-11:30
  • Wednesday 20 November 2024, 14:00-15:30
  • Thursday 19 December 2024, 10:00-11:30
