This week is Operation Sceptre and Knife Crime Awareness Week. Knife harm is the number one concern of young people across Essex and the VVU recently launched a campaign aimed at parents to support them with information and advice on how to start a conversation with their young people about the dangers of carrying a knife.
The work to tackle knife crime is carried out by police officers 24-hours a day, seven-days-a-week, but Operation Sceptre Week will see a number of specific operations being carried out across greater Essex, including the use of knife arches, Open Gate devices and handheld Garrett weapons detectors.
National charity The Ben Kinsella Trust has a week long programme of activities the public can get involved in from making a pledge to stay knife free, through to fundraising for knife harm prevention work.
