Domestic Abuse - Basic Awareness

All domestic abuse, honour based abuse and female genital mutilation training is organised by the Essex Safeguarding Adult Board in partnership with ESCB and can be booked via the links below.

Cost to participants:
£25 per person

Target audience:

This course is aimed at anyone working in the children’s or adults workforce who wants or needs a basic level of awareness with regard to domestic abuse and violence.

Learning Outcomes:

·       A basic awareness of domestic abuse and violence

·       An understanding of the dynamics of domestic abuse including the impact it has on the individual, family members and children

·       Why leaving a domestic violence relationship is difficult and the risks that come with it

·       Understand the relevant roles and responsibilities of statutory and voluntary agencies

·       An understanding of the MARAC (Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference) and the importance of information sharing

Domestic Abuse Training - Enhanced Awareness

Cost to participants:
£55 per person


Target audience:
This course is aimed at anyone working in the children’s or adults workforce who want to enhance their knowledge of domestic abuse.


Pre-requisite for this course is that you must have completed basic domestic abuse training either through e-learning or face to face training.


Learning outcomes:

  • Gain skills to identify perpetrators and give safe messages regarding the cause of their abuse
  • Be aware of one standardised tool DASH (Domestic Abuse, Stalking, Harassment and Honour Based Violence) 2009 risk assessment and the high risk indicators
  • Understand the MARAC process in depth, their agency’s role, referral process and the importance of attending the MARAC
  • Know about services available to people who are abusive to their partners and criteria for referrals
  • Have an awareness of the legislative framework surrounding domestic abuse
  • Understand the links between domestic abuse and child abuse and abuse against vulnerable adults
  • Gain skills in responding appropriately to male victims
